Why Do I Wear Dresses All the Time?

As a pseudo-feminist, I oughta be against the concept of wearing a dress. But I'm not. I like them. A lot.
  1. They are comfy.
  2. They are cooler than pants. If they made dresses with built in air conditioners, I would max out my credit card for one. Especially if it came in purple.
  3. Way back when I was thin, my bottom was round and my waist was tiny. Like 45": 23" Find jeans for that!
  4. I don't have to try and match. Got the top? The bottom comes with it. That way my disorganization doesn't result in nudity.
  5. Only one thing to wash, dry, fold, and put away. Especially now that nylons are so passé.
  6. When I buy dresses at Goodwill I only have to pay for one item to get an entire outfit.
  7. I can lose or gain about 20 lbs without having to buy new clothes.
  8. I can pull it on in about 15 seconds, 35 max. I've always preferred sleep to primping.
  9. They are pretty.
  10. The Yvil sister hates them. It's important that we maintain that polar opposites thing.
Ta-DA! Now you know.

Disorganization potentially results in nudity? I'll make a note of that. (That was pretty darn funny by the way)

Someone really should warn disorganized people.

Yay for Goodwill AND dresses! I'm all for comfort. A good percentage of my wardrobe is from thrift stores. They bring me joy.

Oddly, I disagree with you!

I find pants to be far cooler, and having taught miniture humans (who look up your dress!!) I found my self feeling much more secure with material encasing my full form!

Yet, clothing with an air conditioner built in.... hmmmm... youre on to something there....

Thrift stores, YOU BET!! Support a group, buy cheap books!! WOO HOO!!! Mmmmmm..... boooookkkksss!

Oh, yeah, dresses.... Um, I teach labs... fire... death... weird girl in my OChem lab settin herself on fire.... flaming PU memories... Grampa dropping a lit match on Bess!!! Eek!!

Who, me, issues?? Never! (Lifetime subscription....)

Whyever for? (Is whyever a word?) I'm a pseudo feminist, but I don't think feminism, at least this wave of it, requires that we give up feminimity.

I'm a dress girl too, for the record. Well, as opposed to shirts and skirts. I'd rather wear jeans almost any day.

Annette: Our Goodwill has 1/2 price days on every holiday! Very little brings me joy quite as much as a $100 dress in prime condition purchased for $2.50.

But of course, Yvil. We are destined to be at odds.

Ah see, Sue, that is my problem. I'm a faux feminist and I don't know what true feminists think. I just know I want to do what I want to do when I want to do it, and if someone tells me I can't because I'm a girl, then I am very likely to use some mighty unfeminine language. And I claim the same privilege for all womankind.

I love dresses! Except I usually wear skirts, so I guess it's not quite the same thing. I usually wear a skirt about five days out of seven - I love them. They are so comfortable, and I almost only wear long skirts so I can do anything in them and I could go on forever. I'm like you (larger hips, smaller waste - and hey, I'm fifteen years younger, so don't feel bad) and so I've always looked better in skirts, and had an easier time fitting in them.

I used to wear a lot more dresses too, but I've been nursing/pregnant since marriage, so it's rare I can find a dress that works for either/both.

And I love goodwill. Or DI if I'm in Utah.

LOVE dresses! I'm nursing right now, but does that stop me from pulling the bottom up over my head?! HEck NO! Yeah for pretty dresses! Love your description of your kind of feminism, sounds good to me! :D

(Looking at my disorganized desk in horror whilst waiting for the clothes to drop from my body.)

Being that I am almost 5'2" it is hard for me to find a dress that doesn't scrape the ground when I put it on. When forced, I wear a skirt and T. I am super casual.

April, you should be good. I believe it's laundry disorganization that is the nudity producer. :)

Thora & Melinda,
Motherwear on eBay! I love having dresses that I don't have to take off completely to nurse the baby. BTW, I am going to be retiring my size [really big] Motherwear stuff, if you know any larger nursing women who might want them.

hee hee. I have to say that I love your reasoning and logic. Very very reasonable and logicacal-ish. And wow, can I call you J-lo now since you had such a bootie. No wonder your husband is so into wholesome recreational activities.

You would so love living in Hawaii. You would fit right in.

And so funny that yvil sister emphatically disagrees with you. ODDLY even.

Yeah, I gotta give it to you here. I have a body that was made for dresses. Read: disproportionate.

I love thrift stores... I think I just fell in love with you. and Annette.
I love to buy stuff at the thrift store, and then have all the "cool kids" tell me how much they love my outfit. I snicker with glee!

You and the purple dresses.

I thought after my mission that I would never go back to pants because dresses were so easy and comfortable. But, societal pressure got to me. You are uber cool for not falling for it.

If I had written this post . . . the conversation would be radically different.

Just saying.

Right you are, dude.

Jami, why haven't I discovered your blog before now? This is great!

As a sister daily dress-wearer, I second every one of your reasons for preferring dresses to pants (I can't say my measurements were ever the same as yours, but my measurements give related challenges). The poor things who have grown up in jeans have a hard time understanding the benefits of real women's clothing!

Hi Ardis! I feel like you've been here before. (Probably because every weekend I come over and have a Keepa-fest so have a lot of Ardis in my life.)

Everyone--go read Ardis' church history blog! It is a delight!
