And we've named this one Edward after The Edward of Twilight fame. (I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of twin puncture marks on my thumb.)
A list for my mom:
Positives
- They love being touched. (Kid overload occurs, frequently around here.)
- They are so gentle with the little ones. (A must.)
- They like outdoors. (Requirement.)
- Litter box use? Perfect. (Non-negotiable.)
- And they are young enough to qualify for the super-cheap neuter. (Nice. Very, very nice.)
Negatives:
- I owe my man a serious concession somewhere down the road.
- I hate the litter box.
Why, it would appear that the positives outweigh the negatives! Woo-hoo! If I could make my blog do a little happy dance, I would.

It's a clean regency. I'm going to buy it. Regencies are my favorite light reading.
So, Jami, what I want to know is . . . if you are 40 and you started reading regencies when you were 12, doesn't that mean you have been reading them for 28 years, not 19? In that case, you do have me beat. Do you read Barbara Metzger? The older clean ones, anyway? One of my favs! Anyway, she read my manuscript and provided a quote for the book jacket (which might or might not have made it to the printer on time--my editor won't say) but it is up on the Avalon.com website---I'm thrilled to death! I know I've read lots of Barbara Metzger's books over the years. The only one I recall out of the list on her website is An Angel for an Earl, which required a quick page flip here and there if I'm thinking of the right one. I must say that it is quite impressive that she wrote the blurb for your book jacket.
My sister (who is not LDS) generally pre-reads regencies for me these days as she knows I hate page flipping. I really hate it when an author throws something important in the middle of a s*x scene because then I miss it and have to go looking back through all that throbbing to find the important tidbit. In days of yore it was not necessary to have my regencies screened by someone. They used to be clean.
My favorite authors for novels set in Regency England: Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Marion Chesney, Elizabeth Mansfield, and Caroline Courtney.
Those are all in my top ten, too, (especially Georgette) except for Caroline Courtney--somehow I missed her. I also love Susan Carol, Carla Kelly, Marian Devon, Michelle Martin and Joan Smith, a reak kick in the pants and very, very clean. She pretty much stopped writing when Regencies started getting warmer. And, yes, An Angel for the Earl was a bit too-too. Most of her earlier ones are just fine, though. Her recent ones . . . well, I guess she figures she has to make a buck. I haven't read many of those.
